What is a Nutriscope?

Assistant Winemaker Ell is showing us a device called a Nutriscope. It is made by a French Company called Senseen. They have come up with a way to use different wavelengths of light to measure the nutrients of a plant.  It is super-new ground breaking technology that we are putting to use in the vineyard. We are able to get a stress index for the vineyard and chart it over time. This will help us identify some of the problem spots and let us do quick nutrient adjustments. By using sap analysis of the leaves, we can get very quick results for an individual vine, a plot, or the whole vineyard. In the past, the previous method I used to do this took about a month between sampling, drying the samples, sending it to a lab, and waiting for results. With the Nutriscope we can see real time results. The Nutriscope is able to do all this without damaging the leaves and is completely non invasive. It is a great new tool.
